Spinning Windmills

(Ages 5 and over with a little adult help)

YOU WILL NEED

  • 1 square piece of colored paper
  • scissors
  • a small nail with a large head
  • 1 new pencil with eraser top
  • 1 bead
  • packet of stick on stars or other stickers

Take the paper and make sure that it is square.

Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the other to form an X. Then mark a small cross in the centre of this X as shown (Fig a).

Cut along the diagonal  lines up to the small cross only. 

Number each corner as shown.  Bring corner 1 to the centre (Fig b). Then Bring corner 2 over to corner 1 (Fig c), corner 3 over corner 2 and finally corner 4 over corner 3.

Adult help required: Then take the nail and push through the four points and all the way through the centre of the windmill.

Hammer or push the nail through the eraser of the pencil. Glue a bead over the point of the nail which has come out of the side of the eraser. For safety, blunt the end of the pencil and tape.

Stick  gold, silver or colored stars onto the windmill.  Hold star to the wind or blow on.
